Rodney called in with a cool story about the Dew Tour in his hometown of Baltimore. He was walking around the festival village with his sister and nephews when they happened across the Woodward Skate Park. This is a mini skate park that kids are allowed to skate in at each stop of the dew tour. They were watching the kids skate and he was stoked to see something interactive like that at the event. Then he looked and saw that a number of the kids were riding his board. He ended up talking to the kids and signed some autographs and had a great time while hanging out with the nephews and his sister. They must have been stoked on uncle Rodney!

After the Maloof Money Cup, the entire team will be heading to the home of Lebron James-Cleveland, Ohio for stop #2 of the Dew Tour.

Team Update

Positiv Team

Friday, June 20th saw the kickoff for the 2008 AST Dew Tour in Baltimore, MD, home of Positiv’s own Rodney Jones. Being the hometown hero, Rodney was treated with a wildcard into the main event. Also on hand were Rodney’s Positiv teammates Andy Macdonald, Carlos de Andrade and Sandro Dias.

On the Street side of things, Rodney skated nice and loose and nailed his first run, a run he called his safety run.  Unfortunately for Rodney, it wasn’t enough to land him in the finals. All was not lost as Rodney also spent a good portion of his time filming with the fueltv crew, signing autographs and skating. Carlos qualified in the 5th position and ended up with yet another top 10 finish, netting himself a solid 9th. On Saturday, Rodney and Carlos headed over to the MASN booth to sign autographs for the skate fans out there.

Over in Vert, Andy Macdonald landed a few 720’s on route to 4th place overall while Sandro skated to the finals and he too found himself among the top 10 with a 9th. They took their turn over at the MASN booth signing autographs, taking pics with fans and being great ambassadors for skateboarding. Check out more on the masnsports site.

It was another great showing for the team. The next stop for the Dew Tour is Cleveland. Andy and Sandro will both be competing in the Maloof Money Cup, vying for the grand prize of $75,000 and a tricked out SUV!

Andy Mac

Here’s some footage of Andy teaching some under privileged youth how to skate. Turn up your volume for “Lesson #1″

Andy Mac & Fresh Air Fund

Andy Mac

Andy Mac is more than just big Benihanas and bigger smiles. Check out what the high-flying philanthropist is up to in NYC:

Leave it to the big kid of skate, Andy Mac to earn hero status for helping out kids. This week, the world- champion super talent split his time between the New York parks and the red carpet when he was recognized by the Fresh Air Fund with the esteemed “American Hero” award along with funny man Jimmy Fallon and New York Ranger, Brendan Shanahan. The Fresh Air Fund has been around since 1877, providing free summer vacations to more than 1.7 million New York City children from low-income neighborhoods.

True to form, Andy rolled across the venue’s floor and ollied onto the stage on his board to accept the his award, much to the surprise of the cast of supporters ranging from Mario Batali and Amy Poehler to Katie Couric and Patricia Field. Thanks to supporters including Payless ShoeSource, the event raised an astounding 1.7 million dollars, equal to the number of children the program has served! Equally as headline-worthy is the fact that Andy Mac donned a suit for the event (paired with his Airwalk kicks, of course).

Andy showed his true colors earlier in the week when he threw down for an afternoon VIP skate clinic with group of a dozen Fresh Air Fund kids - - most of which had never skated before - - at Riverside Park Skate Park in Manhattan. He began the afternoon by kitting the dozen aspiring shreds with head-to-toe gear a skateboard, helmet, pads, and Airwalks skate shoes and Friendship Shoes.

Andy taught the kids an intro progression including proper board stance, transitions, tail drops, and of course, tips on falling. The session wrapped up with a demo by Andy Mac in the half pipe, culminating in a massive jump over three of the kids who were sitting atop the pipe. Needless to say, the kids were stoked, and so was Mr. Mac, ever happy to introduce kids to a love of skateboarding.

Folks can support the Fresh Air Fund by visiting FreshAir.Org, or for the sneaker aficionados, through purchase of The Friendship Shoe, a customizable Airwalk-branded slip-on sold in Payless stores and on Payless.com, for which 100-percent of the net profits The Fresh Air Fund.

Andy’s winning vert run in Shanghai!

Positiv team gets some love in Shanghai!

Andy Mac

In recent weeks, Andy, Sandro, Rodney and Carlos have all been to Shanghai. At the Dew Tour, Andy finished second, Sandro finished 4th, and Sandro landed the first ever 900 in China. Unfortunately for Carlos, the Street event was rained out, so he got to do some sightseeing…

The following week, Andy headed back East with Rodney. Andy finished first in Vert and a respectable 4th in Street, while Mr. Jones suffered form a stomach bug…I haven’t seen the video or pics yet, but apparently there’s some disgusting footage floating around of poor Rodney.

Skateboard Vert Finals Defending champion and crowd favourite Andy Macdonald brought the house down with another gigantic performance to win the Skateboard Vert Finals. While his win was not a surprise, unheralded Josh Stafford stole into second place. The American, who is from San Diego, California the place where Macdonald is also from, was placed fourth in the preliminary round but came out firing in the final round. Renton Millar from Australia came in third.

Team Positiv in China

The guys had a great week in China. Sandro landed the first 900 ever in China to win the best trick competition and Andy fulfilled his lifelong dream of skating on the Great Wall of China. Unfortunately for Rodney and Carlos, the Street contest was canceled due to rain.

You can get more details from the ast site. Sandro is the cover boy. More to come…
